The purpose of the class is to:
1) Increase students' ability to understand spoken arguments in English
2) Increase students' ability to make spoken English arguments about academic content in English
3) Increase students' ability to support their ideas with reasons, examples, and evidence
Students will listen to spoken arguments in English and complete activities based on these arguments. The students will then create recordings of their own arguments. The students will also study about how to make presentations in English before creating their own presentations.

The teacher will make audio recordings, quizzes, and assignments available in class and on a learning management system (LMS) website called Google Classroom.

Students should use their class code to access Google Classroom. To complete assignments, students will research the class topics before practicing speeches and presentations about these topics. Students should then record these speeches using smartphones or similar devices and upload them to Google Classroom. Students should also complete listening quizzes and check their scores and the transcripts of the recordings (for practice quizzes) after being graded.
Students will need to complete the recording activities before the deadlines on the class schedule.
One task will require students to use Google Slides. To learn about how to use Google Classroom, Google Docs, and Google Slides please see https://sites.google.com/st.kitasato-u.ac.jp/gapps-howto/ (please access while logged into your student account). Using Microsoft PowerPoint or similar alternatives is also acceptable.

They will also be able to send questions to the teacher about English B and get advice about how to improve their English in future. |
This course aims to help students make presentations about topics in English in a way that is suitable for academic contexts. The focus will be mostly on practicing using vocabulary and grammar the students have learned before, but the teacher will also introduce new content.

You will attend classes each week, but you will also need to use Google Classroom to complete class activities.
